FSMB Web tool examines pharmaceutical marketing practices
March 24th, 2008 by mcgThe Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) Research and Education Foundation has launched a Web-based tool to provide physicians with free access to accredited continuing medical educational programs about
pharmaceutical industry marketing techniques and their effect on prescribing practices. The online portal is funded by a grant from the Attorney General Consumer and Prescriber Education Grant Program, which was created as part of a 2004 consumer protection settlement with Warner-Lambert, a division of Pfizer, Inc., that resolved allegations of deceptive “off-label” marketing of the drug Neurontin. The FSMB’s Online Prescriber Education Network also gives physicians access to unbiased information about pharmaceutical marketing practices, prescription medications, and appropriate prescribing practices.
